Computing is full of synonyms not worth having. The problem of synonyms have been largely omitted by computer scientists worldwide. Solving this problem is solving the most basic problem in teaching and learning the computing.
An example of synonyms can be found in terms like column, attribute, field. Those three are synonymous. It is good if ACM (Association of Computing Machinery) decides what is the official term among the three. I myself choose column.
